Raymond J Basquez Sr., age 79 passed away Sunday morning November 1, 2015 at Temecula Valley Hospital. He was born on January 6th, 1936 living the greater part of his life on the Pechanga Indian Reservation located in Riverside County, California. He was a vital community leader, a respected Spiritual Singer and Teacher of Traditional Luiseño Songs and Traditional Dances. He was also very well known throughout Indian Country and committed himself unselfishly to rekindling the teachings of the Traditional language, Traditions and practices keeping the customs vibrantly alive for the preservation among his Native People. As a Tribal Elder he willingly shared his life experiences, knowledge and understanding only to empower his People. He was a caring husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend who will be missed, yet his teachings and Strong Spirit will continue to prevail. Mr. Basquez was preceded in death by his Mother, Frances Leyvas (Leivas) Basquez Garcia, Father Arthur Basquez, Eldest Brother Arthur Basquez Jr., Sisters Amelia Rivera, Irehne Basquez Scearce and Daughter Natalie Holguin (Ramirez). He is survived by his eldest sister, Ruth Masiel older brother Atanicio (Tony)Basquez, loving Wife Linda Basquez, Wonderful Children: Raylene Holguin, Raymond J Basquez Jr., Rita Ann Offidani, John Mora, Mary Cordova, Dawn Judd and Ryan Horgos, 22 Grandchildren, 38 Great-Grandchildren, and 8 Great-Great Grandchildren. On Friday, Nov. 6th, 2015 at 7:00 pm. we will pray the Rosary followed by a traditional Wake at the Old School House on the Pechanga Indian Reservation. Gravesde Services will be held on Saturday Nov. 7th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pechanga Indian Reservation Cemetery.
