Obituary for John Jacob Shultz

John Jacob Shultz went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1st, 2018 at the age of 93. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, his sister Mary Thompson, his daughter, Patricia Ann Shultz-Cole, and his wife of 72 years, Frances Willis (Willi) Shultz. He is survived by his children, Randy Wayne (Paula), Jeffrey Jay (Sheryl), and Sandra Janine Shultz, as well as 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

John was born in Whittier, California on October 18, 1924 to Royce and Ferba Shultz. He lived all but the last 14 years of his life in the Whittier area. He was raised on a farm with his Father, Mother and sister where he established early on his relentlessly strong work ethic. He attended Whittier High School where he met his wife-to-be, Willi. After graduation from high school, he began attending Whittier College where he majored in chemistry. In June of 1944, his college education was interrupted when he entered the Navy and served with the Marines as a medical corpsman in World War II. It was during his time in the service that he and Willi married on April 7, 1945. He completed his military obligations in March of 1946. In the Fall of 1946, he resumed his studies at Whittier College and graduated with his bachelor degree in May of 1948. He initially took a job in a local chemistry lab but soon began working in what would be come his life-long occupation as a general contractor with a local construction company, Seacrest and Fish. During his long career in construction, he would later work with J.D. Timmons Company, Berry Construction Company and finally, Tovey/Shultz Construction Company from which he finally retired in 2005 at the age of 80.

In 1949, John and Willi began their family with the birth of Patty. Randy was born in 1950, and Jeff and Sandy came along in 1960 and 1961, respectively.

In addition to his family and work life, John was involved in his church. He was a deacon, trustee, and usher at First Brethren Church of Whittier until 1979. In 1979, the family began attending First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton where he served on the Elder Board and as an usher.

In 2004, John and Willi relocated to their new home in Temecula, California until they moved to Atria Vintage Hills in the Spring of 2015 due to Willi’s failing health. John would often accompany Willi’s piano playing with his harmonica during their church and worship services at Atria.

On May 1st, 2018, almost one year after his sweet wife’s passing, the daily struggles of this life ended for John. He has been joyfully reunited with Willi, his daughter Patty, as well as his own Dad that he has greatly missed for the past 56 years.

Dad, after 93 years, your faith has been made sight! You are in your Savior’s arms now. He has made all things new for you. We can’t wait to see you again and see the joy on your face that started the second you entered into eternity because of your faith in your Lord, Jesus Christ. Welcome home, Dad. We love you!

At John’s request, a private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
