Obituary

Norman Ray Buller was born in Shafter, California, to John and Minnie Jean (née Reimer) Buller on February 6, 1935. He was called home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2026.

Norm is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Joyce (née Hammer); sons, Steve, Dan (Sue), and Jon (Geri); grandchildren, Martin, Devin (Crystal), Rob (Jackie Morrissey), Tommy (Keegan Terek), Brandon (Sara Shuster), and Tiffiny; great-grandchildren, Lily and Beckett; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Stan and Kenny; and daughter-in-law Julie.

An exceptional student, Norm graduated from Shafter High School and immediately enrolled at Pacific College, where he earned an associate degree in accounting. He then began his professional career at Standard Oil in Taft.

Norm married Joyce, his college sweetheart and the love of his life, on April 17, 1955, in Glendale, California. They made their first home in Taft, where Steve and Dan were born.

In 1964, Norm and the family moved to San Luis Obispo, where Norm earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the California State Polytechnic College. Upon graduation, he went to work for the leading accounting firm Arthur Andersen in Los Angeles. The family made their home in Burbank, California, and welcomed their third son, Jon, while living there.

At Arthur Andersen, Norm specialized in Oil & Gas and Agriculture and developed lasting relationships with many of those he served over the years. His work ethic, attention to detail, and steadfast dedication to his clients earned him admission to the partnership in 1978—more quickly than anyone had advanced to partner in the firm’s history. He retired from Arthur Andersen in 1992.

Joyce and Norm moved to Temecula in 2004 to be closer to Jon and his family. There, reflecting his lifelong interest in rocks and minerals, Norm began his second career as a gem cutter. From garnets to sapphires, turquoise to moissanite, there was no “rough” that Norm could not facet into a true work of art.

Norm will be remembered for his heartfelt kindness and generosity, his sharp sense of humor, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He will be sorely missed.
