Maria Ana Matuz Antero was born August 28, 1954, in Caloocan, Philippines, to Anita and Antonio Antero, the second of ten children. She earned her BA in Accounting from the University of Nueva Caceres, then moved to Los Angeles to marry her first husband, Michael Smith, gaining four stepdaughters. Together they had two daughters, Lauren and Marissa, and moved to Moreno Valley to raise their growing family.

Widowed in 1992, she dedicated herself to supporting her daughters’ interests while building a long career as a civil servant and accountant, first for the city of San Jacinto and later for Moreno Valley, where she retired in 2009.

Mary Ann met Steve Campanella in 1994, but it wasn't until 2005 that their friendship became romance. They moved to Murrieta together in 2013 and married in 2014, building a partnership rooted in years of friendship. There, she enjoyed her retirement — tending her backyard garden, visiting local wineries, and dancing with her Zumba friends.

Mary Ann passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; daughters Lauren and Marissa; stepchildren Carolyn, Monica, Alicia, and Jennifer; grandchildren Lyanna and Chloe; siblings Toni, Marylou, Cora, Gigi, Jun, Albert, and Girlie; her fur child, Riley; and many loving friends and family. She'll be remembered always for her smile, her vibrant joy, and for always being the first one on the dance floor.
