Obituary

John R. Pontsler, 76, of Temecula, California, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025. Born on May 14, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, John lived a life marked by devotion, integrity, and quiet strength. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during the Vietnam War. After his service, he dedicated 34 years to working as a lineman for Pacific Bell, where he earned the respect of colleagues and made lifelong friends.

On June 14th, 1980, John married the love of his life, Judi. For 45 years, he lovingly referred to her as his "Darling Bride." This daily endearment just scratched the surface of the endless love and devotion he held for his wife.  Together, they built a home with their blended family of four children: Aaron, Gretchen, Jessica, and Adam, and watched them each grow into successful adults, making their own individual paths. John's deep commitment to his family was evident in the countless ways he stayed connected to his children. From their daily calls timed perfectly to his kids' commutes, to shared hobbies, family get-togethers, and numerous heartfelt moments that created lasting memories. He especially treasured his role as a grandfather to Taylor, Runic, Cameron, Sabine, Rowan, Marina, and Morgan.

A man of strong Christian faith, John lived by his values and demonstrated them not through words, but through example. John was an exemplary spiritual leader in his home. His joy was in life's simple pleasures — camping, fishing, cooking, eating, traveling, reading, and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He also found a special bond with his son Aaron through virtual flight simulators, exploring the galaxies from the comfort of his couch.

John will be laid to rest with military honors at Miramar National Cemetery on June 9, 2025, a fitting tribute to a life of service, love, and unwavering faith.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
