John Richard Lent died March 1, 2020, in Murrieta from complications of Non Hodgkins lymphoma. He was born in Whittier August 20, 1946, to Cecil and Peggy Lent. His brother Mike was 3 years old. They soon moved to Riverside where John lived until he moved to Murrieta with his wife Donna and daughter Monica in 1975. He grew up in Rubidoux. He played Little League baseball and high school football. He learned to waterski at a young age at the Salton Sea where his family frequently went fishing and camping. He graduated from Rubidoux High in 1964 and Riverside Comunity College in 1971. He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and was stationed in Germany. When he came home he joined his friends at Jurupa Hills Country Club as greenskeepers. There he learned to grow grass and play golf. After moving to Murrieta he went to work for McMillan Farm Management and learned to manage large groves of avocados, lemons, kiwis, and wine grapes. His last job was at Oak Grove Institue in Murrieta as the sole groundskeeper, and occasional occupational childcare worker. He was smart, funny, fair, and kind (except for stray cats in his yard).
