Obituary

Jay Canfield, born on May 28, 1965, in Gardena, CA, left us for a deeper dive on November 8, 2024, at the age of 59. Jay had a zest for life that was as vast as the ocean he so loved to explore.

Jay was a lover of life whose passion reached beyond limits, inspiring those around him profoundly. He carried the spirit of the ocean with him wherever he went, mastering its depths as an accomplished scuba instructor with certifications from both NAUI and the Los Angeles County Underwater Unit. This energy that defined him spread through both his personal life and career.

To Jay, life was an exhilarating dive—every moment was cherished, every experience explored wholeheartedly. He was a beacon of dedication and optimism, leading those around him with encouraging mentorship and unwavering positivity. Whether he was guiding a student through a complex dive or supporting a loved one in need, his leadership shone through, leaving an indelible mark on all he encountered.

Those who knew Jay can attest to his intensity for living, an intensity that radiated from everything he did.  He is deeply missed by his beloved wife, Ruth and family, Ernesto, Holly, Michael, Stephanie, Everson, and Azlin, who carry forward his legacy of love and enthusiasm. He was passionate about his family and his two loyal labradors, Bailey and Luna, who were ever by his side, reveling in the joyful moments he created.

Though deeply missed, he is now reunited with his parents, Jerry and Kathleen Canfield, who both predeceased him. Jay's presence in this world was akin to a beacon lighting the path for others, and the ripples of his spirit will continue to touch the hearts and souls of many. Rest easy, Jay, knowing that your legacy endures, and you will be greatly missed.
