Hilmer David Weyler, 85, of Hemet, California; passed away on May 10, 2026. His unexpected death will leave a wide hole in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Hilmer’s benevolent spirit will live on in the lives he touched.
Hilmer was born in Santa Maria, CA. to Virginia (Johnson) and David Harry Weyler on August 26, 1940. Spending his childhood in the granite studded hills of Reinhardt Canyon outside of Hemet, CA. Hilmer was a consummate farm kid where he learned to work hard and developed his ability to master anything mechanical. He would later pass his wealth of knowledge to students through Future Farmers of America in Montana.
Upon graduating Hemet High School in 1958, where he shone as an All-American football player, Hilmer enrolled in California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. There he studied farm management and was a Golden Gloves Boxer. On May 1, 1971, he married Juanita Louise Roberts. While custom farming in rural south central Montana, they would raise four children.
On March 22, 2013, Hilmer married Ann McKenzie Birnie of Laverne, CA. They enjoyed visiting family, trucking and enduring companionship.
During the Vietnam War, he served as a highly decorated officer in the U.S. Army bestowed a Purple Heart and Silver Star. A natural leader, he also loved to cook and nourished anyone at his table. He was a lifelong learner, and had boundless and broad curiosity. He also enjoyed music and the occasional friendly debate. Passionate about helping others, Hilmer will be remembered as a considerate, generous, hardworking man.
Hilmer was a loyal son, husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. Hilmer is survived by his wife McKenzie, daughters Karen (Darren) Massey, Linda (Brian) Jacobson and Nancy Weyler (Chase Kearney) and his son David Weyler (Wendy Jacobs), his sister, Camille (Andrew) McElhinney.
He is survived by grandchildren Darren Jr., Kaitlyn, Samuel, Rawley, Evelyn, Andrew, Theodore and stepchildren Will (Pamela) Durant, Erin Kerr and Andrew Durant. Hilmer was the proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews who appreciated his gracious willingness to love, teach and support them throughout their lives.
