Born September 19, 1937 in Guam to Francisco Pinaula Mesa and Trinadad Anderson Cruz Mesa, one of eleven children. She is survived by her two brothers, Pedro Mesa and Jose Mesa, and seven children, Bernice Reyes, Joyce Runyan, June Perez, Pearl Lehnhoff, Robin Matthews, April Burt, and Troy Upton. Carmen worked at the Dole Pineapple Co. in Honolulu when she met her loving husband Robert "Bob" Upton. They moved to San Diego where they raised their seven children. Carmen worked retail for over 40 years. Family and Faith were especially important to her. Their home was open to all and always full. Bob and Carmen were very involved in the community and dedicated to service at the Sons and Daughters of Guam Club, San Diego. Carmen had many passions including cooking traditional Chamorro foods for many events, she also took pride in her role gathering and preparing angels for many fiestas. Carmen's greatest treasure was her grandchildren. She leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Carmen departed this world on December 29, 2020 when she went home to be with her beloved husband and her brothers and sisters. Carmen will be greatly missed.
