Obituary

Brian J. Havey, USN (Ret.)August 1, 1939 – March 30, 2026

Brian J. Havey passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 30, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born in Everett, Massachusetts, on August 1, 1939, Brian graduated from Newton High School in 1957. He attended Harvard University before transferring to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he began a distinguished path of service and competed in cross country and track.

Brian proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, attaining the rank of Commander. During his military career, he piloted Lockheed S-3A Viking aircraft and served as a navigator aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Kitty Hawk. His service reflected a deep commitment to his country, discipline in his craft, and steady leadership.

A lifelong runner, Brian continued the sport for many years after his time at the Academy. He ran with the Bonita Roadrunners and completed a couple of Boston Marathons, reflecting the same endurance and determination that defined so much of his life.

Brian completed his military service while living with his family in Bonita, California. In 2003, he and Anne settled in Temecula, where he enjoyed his later years surrounded by family and friends.

Brian is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne, with whom he built a life centered on family, commitment, and shared experiences. Together, they raised three children, Brian Jr., Michael, and Erin, along with their spouses, Karen, Lorie, and Mike. Brian and Anne were also blessed with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy.

Brian had a deep passion for golf and cherished the many friendships he built on the course in Coronado. He found great joy not just in the game, but in the camaraderie and connection it brought.

He also had a genuine interest in people. He took the time to get to know his children’s friends and his grandchildren’s buddies, not just on the surface, but with a sincere interest in their lives, well-being, and goals.

He will be remembered for his steady character, strong sense of responsibility, and quiet strength. His influence lives on through the family he loved and the values he instilled.

He will be deeply missed and remembered with respect and gratitude by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, and may you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you’re gone.”

A service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California, on May 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
