Nicolas Salas was born in Michoacán, Mexico on April 9th, 1959. After a long struggle with cancer he passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, September 26th, 2015, in Riverside, CA. After immigrating with his siblings to Hawaiian Gardens, California, Nick attended Ferguson Elementary School, Killinsworth Junior High, and Artesia High School. He married his teenage sweetheart Rita Uribe in San Luis, Mexico and shortly thereafter began his career as a communications technician with AT&T. His new career enabled him to purchase his first home in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. Moving for his career, Nick lived throughout the Southwest including Riverside, Oxnard, and Murrieta, California and Phoenix, Arizona. Nick was always fascinated with technology and cars. His passion for his gadgets and vehicles paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. When not hosting the family for the holidays, Nick would take his extended family out on camping trips, road trips across the country, concerts, Dodger games and hunting. As the family prankster, Nick can always be counted on to bring smile to your face with his quick wit and wise cracking comments. He took great lengths to care and provide for his family and constantly challenged them to realize their greatest potential. In January 2012 Nick lost his beloved wife Rita to cancer. In coming to terms with his grief, Nick sought solace in his faith. Nick’s faith grew and at one of his weekly church groups he met Hortensia Acosta. Hortensia brought a new energy for life and sense of joy for Nick. She was vigilantly by his side and a source of inspiration and strength for his family. They were recently married this past spring. Nick, is survived by his wife Hortensia and was the beloved son of Fabian and Leonor Salas, loving father of Karina Hinrichs, Nancy Bove, Nicholas Alexander Salas, playful grandfather of CJ, Eliana, Ethan, Sylvia, Jaxson, Isabel and Diego, an endearing brother of Juan, Lydia, Mike, George, Sally, Moses, David, Alicia, and Jim.
