Ronald James Downing, 73, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, surrounded by his family after a battle with ALS disease. He was born October 29, 1944 in Bismark, North Dakota, to Robert and Selma (Ekholm) Livingston. After moving to Washington State with his mother and younger brother, Randall, his mother married Lawson (Louie) Downing, who adopted the two boys and along with his son, Lawson, the Downing family was complete. They moved to San Diego where Louie was stationed in the Navy. Ron graduated in 1963 from Lincoln High School where he was active in sports and student government as ASB President. He married Jackie (Dolan), residing in Poway, CA and had two children, Julie and Chris. Ron graduated from San Diego State University with a B.A. in Psychology and ultimately achieved an M.B.A. at Redlands University. He married his best friend, Barbara, on July 30, 1994, and as a result his family grew to include her children, Stephen and Michelle. His career focused on information systems and data security where he spent 18 years at Imperial Savings and Loan as Senior Vice President; 6 years at Visa International as Senior Vice President of Global Processing Services; 8 years at Time Warner as Corporate Vice President of Global Infrastructure; and the last 9 years at Edgile, Inc. as Managing Director. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; 4 children Stephen (Kym), Michelle (Joe), Julie (Carleen) and Chris (Emily; 9 grandchildren Chase, Ciera, Christopher, Morgan, Halen, Ryan, Taylor, Michael, and Zach; 5 great-grandchildren Tyus, Lucas, Joseph, Gracie, and Eliah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Selma, and brother, Lawson. He loved traveling the world with his wife, playing golf, drinking wine, and watching sports, but considered his most precious moments spent with family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother-in-law, and great friend.
