Polly Childress Johnson passed away at Desert Hills Memory Care Center in Hemet, California on September 15, 2017. She was 90 years old. She and her sweet husband of 50-plus years, Maurice Johnson, were both formerly of Greeley, Colorado where they lived most of their lives together and raised their family. Polly went to college later in life and graduated from the Uiversity of Northern Colorado with a major in elementary education. She immediately went to work in the District 6 school system. She loved teaching children, and her students and coworkers recognized her as a gifted teacher. She taught in the school system for 25 years until she retired. She then started an antique business in Greeley that brought her much enjoyment. She and Maurice retired in DelRay Beach, Florida. Polly is survived by her two daughters and one daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Moore of Sparta, N.J., Nancy Simons of Boca Raton, Fla., and Viki Johnson of Hemet, Calif. She has seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her nine siblings -- Jay Kay Childress of Monte Vista, Colorado., and Katie Sue Newport of Springfield, Mo. She has a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Maurice, and her son, Paul Johnson. She was a wonderful mother and friend. A family service will be held in Boca Raton, Fla., at a future date. Condolences to the family can be sent to England Family Mortuary at englandfamilymortuary.com.
