Obituary for Natalie Jane Steffens

Natalie Jane (Hanson) Steffens went home to be with Jesus on May 24, 2017. She passed away at the age of 53 at home with family in Temecula, CA after a struggle with cancer.

She was born November 19, 1963, in Algona, IA, the daughter of Charles and Juanita (Eller) Hanson. Following graduation from Algona High School in 1982, she attended McConnell Travel School in Minneapolis, MN. After graduation, she moved to San Diego, CA where she fell in the love with both the weather and her future husband, Bill Steffens of Lake Oswego, OR. They were married in San Diego on March 28, 1987. After San Diego, they also resided in Portland, OR, Phoenix, AZ, and Seattle, WA. They eventually returned to the San Diego area where they settled in Temecula, CA. The couple was married for 30 years and had 2 children.

Natalie was passionate and intentional with her parenting and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as helping raise her niece, Morgan. Always learning, she loved to read, study and research to further her self-education. With everything she did, she was “all-in” and never did anything half-way. Natalie was very determined with a strong will to do what’s right. She was well-read, knowledgeable and wise, and knew what to do in any situation.

She loved the constant sunshine and warm weather of Southern California and enjoyed outings and experiences, like snorkeling at La Jolla Cove and spending time in and around the San Diego area.

Natalie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Juanita (Eller) Hanson. She is survived by her husband Bill Steffens, son Vincent Steffens, daughter Holli (Kenny) Bridge, grandsons Colton and Wyatt Bridge, siblings Fran Bretz, Chuck Hanson, and Virginia Culp, and niece, Morgan Culp.

A private burial was held Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego. A Celebration of Life memorial was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Reliance Church, 29825 Santiago Road, Temecula, CA 92592, officiated by Pastor Jim Diaz.

Natalie was passionate in all her roles, as wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. We will miss her dearly.
