Lois M. Mitchell

lois mitchell
On June 8th, 2016, our beloved Mother left this earth to take her rightful place amongst the heavenly hosts. Mom was an amazing mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, cousin, aunt, teacher and friend. Lois Marie (Amerine) Mitchell, age 84, of Temecula, California passed away after courageously battling lymphoma for the past year. While cancer was the official cause of death, many believe Lois died of a broken heart after losing her husband of 61 years, Robert, just a year prior. Lois maintained her humor and feisty spirit up to the end. Forever loving and grateful, her last words were “thank you” and “I love you”. Lois was born in Kansas and grew up on her family’s farm. Childhood on the farm during the midst of the Great Depression and attending the local one-room school house gave Lois many memorable life experiences she loved to share. Lois obtained her teaching degree from Kansas State and after moving to California enjoyed many decades of teaching in the Glendora school district and was a true favorite amongst her students and their parents. Throughout her busy life, Lois maintained an enviable balance between her inherent wit, whimsy and pragmatic logic. She always provided sound advice but offered it with a side of humor and uncanny insight. Lois enjoyed nature, science, reading and music and eagerly included these in her teaching as well as her personal life. Every walk, drive and gaze into the sea or sky became an exploration of nature; every object of art and piece of music, a joy. Lois’ husband, Robert, and sister Joyce predeceased her. She is survived by her four children Janice (Rick) Ludwig, Julia (Les) Anderson, Brian (Jana) Mitchell and Edith (John) Vance as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois cherished her family and the many friends she made along her path of life. Lois’ family cherishes the lives, memories and life lessons she provided each of us. May she rest in eternal peace. A memorial farewell will be held at the England Family Mortuary in Temecula on July 16th at 3pm.

  3. Our hearts are just so saddened by Grandma Lois & Big Bob’s passing. They have been such a big part of our lives and our kids lives the last 6 years since we moved to Temecula. Grammy Louise is heart broken too, to lose her dear close cousin. The two of them had such good times every time we got them together and through all their years growing up and those years in between. We’re really going to miss the two of them at our family gatherings, our teas and brunches, the Wedgwood conversations, and all the fun cousin visits with Grammy Louise when she was in town hearing about their childhood adventures together and the mischief they’d been up to! You guys are great kids and their pride and joys! They were so proud of each and every one of you and your kids as well! We love you guys and are here if you need anything at all! Love, Robert, Tracy and Grammy Louise and all the kids and grandkids xoxo
