John E. Van Der Lubbe

john van der lubbe
John was born in Jekarta, Indonesia, on May 31st, 1951. The youngest of his mother's 3 sons. He and his mother immigrated to the United States when John was a young child, with not much more than the clothes on their backs and a small amount of money. His mother took a job as a housekeeper in exchange for room and board for herself and John. She eventually got a job that allowed them to get a place of their own. Their modest life forced John to become responsible at an early age. He started working as soon as he was able to help provide for himself and his mom. John started working Goulds Pumps in his early twenties, it was there that he met Dianne. They started dating in 1983 and knew from the beginning that they were meant for each other. They were married the following year and soon after welcomed their son, Justin, into the world. Three years later, they were blessed with their second child- their daughter, Amanda. John had a passion for baseball that he instilled in Justin, who started playing in Little League at age 6. He continued to play for the next twelve years- little league, travel ball and high school ball. Through all those years John rarely missed a game. He was Justin's biggest fan and was very proud of his son's accomplishments. Father and son shared a close bond. John also shared a very close relationship with Amanda. Who grew up to be a beautiful, thoughtful, funny, self-confident, compassionate young woman. The two also shared his love for baseball and enjoyed going to Angel games together. She was "Daddy's girl" and could do no wrong in his eyes. In 2006 Justin passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 21. The family was devastated, their lives forever changed. They got through this very difficult time by the grace of God and the loving support of family and friends, and they grew closer because of it. In 2009 Amanda blessed John and Dianne with granddaughter Kamden. Kamden had John wrapped around her fingers from the moment he laid eyes on her. The two were very close. Kamden loved her Papa "to the moon and back" and John was crazy about her. They loved spending time together, playing games, watching movies, or just talking and being silly together. If John didn't see her for more than a day he would ask Amanda to send him a picture of his "little one" because he missed her. John was a man of faith and a dedicated family man. He was hard working, kind and compassionate, with a great laugh and a unique sense of humor like no other; he loved to make people laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and the staff at the local Starbucks- but no one will miss him more than "his girls", Dianne, Amanda and Kamden. May he rest in peace.

  1. My condolences. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that you can take comfort in these texts as I have in similar circumstances: Acts 24:15, Revelation 21:4. I encourage you to read these hopeful words as the promises they contain are soon to come true. May you find peace in your pleasant memories of moments spent with John. My deepest sympathies.
