Emma Velasquez Bermudez

emma bermudez
Emma Bermudez was born in Tijuana, Mexico on October 21, 1932. She is the middle child and has been predeceased by her sister, Hortencia. Her sister Angie is still living. She also has siblings in Tijuana; Francisco, Maria Elena and Fernando Velazquez. Emma was married for most of her life to Jorge Bermudez who was born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico. They had three children; Mary, Guadalupe and George. They were all born here in the United States. Her early life was spent playing the piano, singing, dancing and doing lots of reading of classical books. She also enjoyed riding horseback, and driving a tractor at her father’s ranch in La Paz. When Emma married, she moved to the US. There she and Jorge spent time raising their children and having many family gatherings. She loved to share her food with everyone. Many people said that she was always looking out for the kids. She loved her faith. That was what she enjoyed doing. She taught catechism, hosted bible studies at her home, and was a part of the Guadalupana group of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chula Vista. She also was a godmother to many of our friends and family members, always staying a part of their lives until adulthood. Her sense of humor and honesty won’t be forgotten. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren from an early age. Many people have shared stories of her welcoming them into their home for meals and laughter. The children especially loved her chicken soup and tortillas. They were the best. Nana, you will be missed so much!
