Douglas P. Dye, age 78, was born in Gary, Indiana, and was the only son of Glen and Aida Dye. As a young boy, and throughout his life he had a strong interest in understanding how things worked and solving problems. This passion fueled him throughout his life. He attended Bishop Noll High School in Hammond, Indiana, graduating in 1957. After finishing high school, he briefly attended Purdue University before joining the United States Navy in 1958. Doug spent four years in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician. He took every course he could to learn his trade, graduating with distinction from his Electronics Technician Class. He achieved the rank of Electronic Technician Second Class and was Honorably Discharged in 1964. After leaving the Navy he started working for Motorola in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his free time taking ballroom dance lessons, leading to a life-long love of dance. In 1967, he volunteered to move across the country to a new Motorola office in Northern California. Doug worked over 38 years at various technical companies, retiring from Unisys as a Manufacturing Engineer in 2004. In 1974, Doug received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the College of Notre Dame. He met the love of his life and best friend Susan in 1985, and they became inseparable. Doug and Susan moved to Murrieta, California in 1998. Together they were active members in the Riverside County Democratic Party, volunteering countless hours in support of local, state and federal campaigns. Over the years, he received numerous awards for his dedication and volunteerism. In 2010, Doug was the endorsed Democratic Candidate for District 66 of the California State Assembly District. That same year, he and his wife Susan, were awarded “Volunteer of the Year” by the California Democratic Party for Region 19. In his later years, he continued to be a voracious learner, always reading, taking classes, developing software and taking care of his beloved animals. Doug was a kind, gentle, loving husband, father and friend, who deeply loved his family and country. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Susan Dye, his daughter and son-in- law Diana and Brian Stuart, and granddaughters Emily and Megan Stuart. A memorial will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 12:00pm at the England Family Mortuary in Temecula, California. A memorial donation can be made to Doug’s favorite charity, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
